My name is Hugo.
Im 27, from the south coast of England, but haven’t lived there since June 2015.
In the meantime, I’ve lived in NZ, Japan, Canada and Australia.
I’ve been in Geelong for the last couple of years. For those who don’t know, it’s a small city between Melbourne and Victoria’s surf coast.
Whilst in the ski industry I had work published in NZ Skier Mag and NZ Ski & Board, worked for clients such as MUSTO Outerwear, Whitedot Skis, SUNGOD Sunglasses, No Friends On A Powder Day (NFPD Brand) Clothing and MONS ROYALE. I shot events such as The North Face Frontier Freeride World Qualifier for NZ Skier, the Jossi Wells Invitational, Holy Bowly (Sunshine Village), Dawn Of The Village, The Backcountry Bert Track Meet and Level 1 Productions’ “perpetual motion’ segment from their 2017 movie “HABIT”.
Moving to Geelong it took me a while to work out life outside the ski industry bubble and find my feet. I lacked a direction in my photography, a network to share my passion with, and knowledge of the opportunities available in the area.
I decided to pick up film photography to give myself a new challenge whilst changing my focus from results to process again. In doing so I met a great bunch of people at Analogue Academy and have discovered a new direction and philosophy in my work.
My personal work is largely a stylised form of photojournalism in search of being able to make a compelling photographic record of my personal experience. From capturing my own take on the suburbs and rural areas in my ‘Burbex and Rurex projects, to passers-by in the street, the political climate of our times in Festivals & Activism or getting out to explore the wild spaces on our doorstep.
